Working with Children Check (WWCC)

FREE TO VOLUNTEERS

All members over 18, without exception, require a WWCC before your membership can be accepted.

Lifesaving Victoria, including Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club, as a volunteer organisation has a responsibility under the Working with Children Act 2005 to:

  • Ensure that the appropriate people have undergone the WWCC; and
  • Ensure no volunteer with a negative notice undertakes child related work.

There are serious legal ramifications for the LSV and the Club if the Act is breached. Fines of up to $125,000 can be imposed on LSV and up to $25,000 or 2 year prison terms can be imposed on individuals.

The WWCC must be obtained by all members over 18 years of age with no exemptions under this policy. This includes “non-active/social members” and members whose professions require a police check for employment purposes including teachers & police officers.

If you hold a WWCC with another volunteer organisation you must complete a WWCC Notification of Change of Personal Details Form to update your details to include OGSLSC.  Follow link to download form www.justice.vic.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/Working+With+Children/Home/Your+Obligations?Card+Holder
